A Recent Review of Dark Journeys

Below is a review of  Dark Journeys taken off Amazon.com.

"Dark Journeys by Neil Benson is an anthology of dark poetry and short stories. The poems are romantic and chilling. The poems read slower than the short stories as you absorb the subtle nuances and emotions.

The short stories should be read when you're prepared to stay awake listening for the creak of a door and lithe, resolute feet that don't belong...feet hundreds of years old. Will the vampire choose you? Look over your shoulder...tonight.

Here are a few great turns of phrase from the anthology:

"A tall, horrid creature arises, and greets the night with a howl."

"At more than three hundred pounds, he knew he shouldn't eat sugary treats, but his resistance to the temptation was lower than his intelligence."

"His eyes darted about like two small marbles bouncing on an interstate highway."

"They looked like cylindrical silver jewels rather than instruments of death."

If you want to know where these tantalizing tidbits originate, you'll just have to buy Dark Journeys by Neil Benson. Fantasy isn't just for children.

I gave it four stars--I would have liked the stories to drag out the suspense with more details. Vampire lovers will find Dark Journeys to be a fun and spine tingling read.

Night Time Lover - A dark poem about a succubus by Neil Benson

Nighttime Lover

You come to me at night,
loving me as no one has before.
Your kisses are a nectar,
that make my senses reel.
Your caresses light a fire,
that wraps me in white heat.

In your arms I find,
passions I cannot describe.
The ecstasy I feel,
burns me to my core.
Time and time again,
you take all of me.
In the morning light,
I find no trace of you.
Every day I wonder,
if you'll come once more.

But when midnight arrives,
I feel you next to me.
The thinner I become
the stronger your embrace.
My body begins to fade
as yours feels more real.
Is my love enough?
Or do you need my soul?
I fear the end is near,
for I lie in bed all day.
One more time I see you,

Succubus (Dungeons & Dragons)

and that will be the end.

A vampire dines on a young man - from the anthology Dark Journeys

The school librarian takes a blood donation from one of the students.

“I'm about to touch your hand with an eraser and you won't feel anything.” She jabbed his hand with the pin. Magda smiled when Jimmy's head didn't move. Then she reached for a double-edged razor blade that she had hidden in a crevice of the couch. Magda took Jimmy's right wrist in her left hand and held the razor blade above it. As she did so, her fangs lengthened, and her eyes became opaque, revealing her as a vampire. Her sharp canine teeth extended, and a lustful expression replaced her warm, pleasant smile. Magda's nostrils flared as she experienced hunger for the vital fluid.

Still holding Jimmy's wrist, she brought the razor down and made a narrow cut in a prominent vein. Blood began to flow and threatened to drip on the floor. Before it did, Magda pressed her mouth to his wrist and sucked in all the precious liquid. Her fangs pierced the thin cut and increased the blood flowing from it. She continued sucking ..................more.
